"We got the necessary permission to set up a SEZ in Greater Noida and the construction work has started," NIIT Chairman Rajendra S Pawar said on the sidelines of India Economic Summit.
The company had announced in June this year its plans to set up a SEZ in Greater Noida with an initial investment of Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion).
It would hire 3,500 professionals over a period of 18 months for the campus, which would have a total capacity of 10,000 when fully built over three phases.
Asked about any plans to acquire companies operating in the same space, Pawar said:
"We have been extensively acquiring companies in the past and are open to any such takeovers in the future too."
Its training arm NIIT Ltd has witnessed a substantial increase in enrollments for its industry-endorsed GNIIT programme and the growth trend is expected to continue, it said.
"Enrollments in GNIIT programme have increased primarily because IT majors have started recruiting non-engineering graduates," he said, adding, the company would play an important role in filling the shortage of skilled professionals faced by the industry.
