L&T bags Rs 368 cr China order

Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro Ltd said on Friday it has bagged a Rs 368-crore (Rs 3.68 billion) order from a power generation company in China for supply of critical gasification equipment.

It will supply three sets of gasification equipment to Datang International Power Generation Company Ltd for its coal based olefin project in Duolun country, Mongolia, the company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

L&T will complete despatch of equipment, based on process technology of Shell Global Solutions, by September 30, 2007 and depute its engineers and skilled workforce to Duolun to complete assembly of the despatched sections by February 15, 2008, it said.

The company's manufactured equipments will help produce 1.5 million tonnes per annum of methanol, which will be subsequently converted into propylene and further into polypropylene, it said.

With this contract, the cumulative order booking of the L&T's heavy engineering division from China exceeds $220 million, the company added.

The heavy engineering division of the company is currently executing orders for Coal Gasification equipment for a 500,000-TPA Methanol plant for Zhongyuan Project and a 20,000 bpd crude equivalent Direct Coal Liquefaction Plant of the Shenhua Group, it said.

L&T's share was trading at Rs 2,735.15 up 3.66 per cent at the Bombay Stock Exchange on Friday.
