Mascot, radio to spread word about E Week

Sri M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology is the first college I have visited that has an E Week Mascot: an elephant named 'Jumbo, the Dumbo'.

Jumbo's been busy since Monday, when he took his first slow motion tour of the vast MVIT campus aboard a tractor, making sure that all heads turned and took notice of E Week.

"It was a novel idea and we bagged a lot of eyeballs. It was such a great experience for me that I didn't mind losing my lecture attendance over it," said Vikas, the man behind the jumbo mask.

His colleagues at the SMVIT E Cell have been busy too, spreading the word through public forums, radio and the local newspapers. A massive candlelight vigil was organised at Sankey Tank, where a crowd of about 500 took the E Week pledge.

Wanting to reach out far beyond their own campus, two E Cell members, Darshan and Nag, approached the popular radio channel Radio Indigo to popularise E Week. The Indigo team was so impressed that they not only featured an interview with E Cell but also added new slots for interviews with entrepreneurs and members of SMVIT Social Entrepreneurship Club as well.

Now that's called 'shouting it out'.
