The Mahrashtra cabinet on Tuesday has approved the implementation of an 18.60 km metro corridor between Dahirar east and DN Nagar in north west Mumbai, with an investment of Rs 6,410 crore (Rs 64.1 billion).
This is the first phase of the 40 km fully underground Mumbai Metro II corridor, connecting Dahiar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd.
Besides, the Cabinet has cleared the 16.5 km elevated metro corridor, between Andheri east and Dahisar east, costing Rs 6,208 crore (Rs 62.08 billion).
Both these metro corridors are a part of the state government’s ambitious project to develop 118 km metro rail in Greater Mumbai.
As per the cabinet decision, of the Rs 6,410 crore the state government through its undertaking Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority will contribute Rs 1,892 crore (Rs 18.92 billion) while state government will provide loan of Rs 757.50 crore (Rs 7.57 billion) while central loan will be worth Rs 292.50 crore (Rs 2.92 billion).

As far as Mumbai Metro VII between Andheri east and Dahisar east, MMRDA will contribute Rs 2,320 crore (Rs 23.2 billion) while the state government will provide loan of Rs 733.50 crore (Rs 7.33 billion) and the central loan to be worth Rs 302.50 crore (Rs 3.02 billion).
