Engineering and construction company Larsen & Toubro Ltd has secured a contract from National Highways Authority of India for constructing a six-lane dedicated flyover on National Highways No 1 (NH1) in Haryana at an estimated cost of Rs 418 crore (Rs 4.18 billion).

When completed, this would be India's longest six-lane flyover on the national highway network, said L&T.

The contract also includes widening the existing four-lanes, 10 km stretch that passes through Panipat city to six lanes and construction of a city bus stand and Skylark Tourist Complex, L&T informed the Bombay Stock Exchange on Monday.

The project, secured against stiff international competition by the company's engineering construction & contract division, is estimated to cost Rs 418 crore and executed on build-operate-transfer basis through a special purpose vehicle to be formed for this purpose.

The total length of the six-lane elevated section is 3.4 km covering the central built up Panipat section.

A separate two-lane peripheral road with paved shoulders would be provided on either side of the access-controlled six-lane Highway for the local Panipat traffic which would not use the elevated structure, it said.

The total concession period, including construction period of three years, would be 20 years, it said.

L&T Ramboll Consulting Engineers Ltd is the design consultant for the project, it added.
