India's leading engineering and construction conglomerate Larsen & Toubro has mega plans to enter China's booming construction, heavy engineering, electrical and electronics, valves and medical equipment markets, the company's top executive said on Thursday.
"We have opened the L&T Representative Office in Shanghai on Monday and are going to start with representation for four divisions of the company in China," chairman and managing director of L&T, A M Naik said.
The core businesses that L&T will focus initially in China will be the heavy engineering, medical equipment, electrical switchgear and construction markets, Naik, who is on his first visit to China, told PTI in Beijing.
L&T, which has already secured contracts worth over $100 million, has appointed four representatives, he said.
Naik said the company plans to appoint another representative to take charge of the valves business in China within three months.
"In a short time, we have made a very great commitment. There are not many countries where L&T has moved in with five people, simultaneously representing five businesses," he said.
