Private carrier Jet Airways on Wednesday commenced daily non-stop flights from Mumbai to Johannesburg.
The carrier has deployed Airbus 330-200 aircraft on the route, it said in a statement.
"Given the strong linkages between India and South Africa and the large number of people of Indian origin living in and working in South Africa, we believe there is untapped potential and this new route will serve the needs of corporate and leisure flyers," Jet Airways CEO Nikos Kardassis said.
The airline will provide onwards connections from Johannesburg to other African cities like Harare, Victoria Falls, Windhoek, Livingstone, Lilongwe, Blantyre, Bulawayo, Gaborone, Maputo, Kinshasa and Lagos among others.
Johannesburg is the twenty-third destination in the airline's international network. Jet Airways currently flies to New York, Toronto, Brussels, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo, Bangkok, Kathmandu, Dhaka and Kuwait among other overseas locations.
