The IT and ITes sector will contribute to seven per cent of the country's GDP by 2007-08 from 4.8 per cent in 2005-06, a senior government official said on Wednesday.

The market potential for business transformation outsourcing is expected to reach $680 billion by the end of March 2009, IT Secretary Jainder Singh said at a BPO and ITes summit organised by industry chamber Assocham.

BTO will grow at 9 to 10 per cent per annum and the percentage of BTO services in the outsourcing spectrum will also increase to 31 per cent by 2009 from 19 per cent in 2004, he added.

The secretary also released an Assocham study on Business Transformation Outsourcing, which ranked Bangalore and Gurgaon as the top two BTO destinations in future.
