The Income Tax department has summoned Sahil Peerzada, a businessman recently in news for a reported brawl with an Australian IPL player, for scrutiny of his tax, income and investment records.
Sources said Peerzada has been asked to come with all his financial documents to the taxman after the department took cognisance of recent media reports about his wealth being about Rs 3,000 crore (Rs 30 billion).
Peerzada, a Mumbai-based Kashmiri businessman recently hit the headlines after his friend Zohal Hamid accused IPL player Luke Pomersbach of molesting her and beating up Sahil.
Both
the parties later struck an out of court settlement in the case.
"Peerzada, however, is not assessed in Delhi but a special unit will be scrutinising his tax returns and documents.
"What is stated in his tax records and what he said in newspapers has to match," I-T sources said.
The businessman has also been asked by I-T authorities to submit to them details of his recent trips abroad and his investments.
After the scrutiny of cases, his case could be moved to the respective I-T assessment range.
The department, under its new regime of combating black money, has begun an exercise to keep a tab on high-net worth individuals.
