The International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde on Monday met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and discussed the global economic situation, including the Eurozone crisis.
"We particularly discussed the euro area situation and we also discussed the role of IMF and importance that emerging market economies have to play within organisation," Lagarde told reporters after meeting Mukherjee in New Delhi.
Lagarde said that she had elaborate discussions on the general economic situation.
The IMF managing director's two-day visit to India comes at a time when the European debt turmoil poses risk to the fragile global economic recovery.
The multilateral agency is also looking to bolster its financial resources -- especially with contributions from emerging majors such as China and India.
She would be participating in the conference on 'China and India: Sustaining High Quality Growth' in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The event is co-organised by the IMF.
Lagarde came to India on Monday after spending two days in China, where she met top Chinese officials, among others.
