IIT-Kharagpur Director: 'He remains extremely humble'

'Sundar's achievement doesn't surprise us at all,' IIT-Kharagpur Director Professor Partha Partim Chakrabarti tells Indrani Roy/Rediff.com

"It's a great day for all of us here at IIT-Kharagpur," Institute Director Professor Partha Pratim Chakrabarti told Rediff.com over the telephone.

With India-born Sundar Pichai, an IIT-Kharagpur alumnus, named Google's new CEO, Professor Chakrabarti is overjoyed.

In a Facebook post, Professor Chakrabarti wrote: 'Congratulations Sundar. You are an inspiration for IITKGP students and the whole IITKGP family is proud of you. Wish you the very best!!'

"Sundar's achievement doesn't surprise us at all," Professor Chakrabarti told Rediff.com

"He is one of the jewels of the Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur and deserves better than the best."

"He belonged to the 1993 batch and was the departmental topper. He was the silver medallist of the 1993 batch," Chakrabarti said.

"It's here that he met his wife Anjali."

"He had a passion for product design and left his mark in all the companies that he worked for," the professor added.

"Sundar never let success go to his head. He remains extremely humble and down to earth even today."

"Youngsters at IIT-Kharagpur look up to him and he interacts with them over Skype at regular intervals."

"He is always forthcoming to discuss his ideas and new projects with fellow IIT-ians at Kharagpur."

"He is just 43. He has many more summits to climb. It feels great to have been his teacher once. I wish Sundar the very best."
