IIMC to take managers overseas for training

The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, will launch its one-year global management programme this academic year, Ranjan Das, programme director-GLM and professor-Strategic and International Management, IIMC, said on Monday.

The programme will comprise five semesters, four of which shall be held in cities across the globe.

The first semester will be held in Kolkata to be followed by Shanghai, Johannesburg, Rio de Janeiro and Moscow, Das said.

"The main idea is to provide the candidates with a first hand experience of the emerging markets of the world where they will be spending 5 days at each city meeting industry people, chambers of commerce, Indian embassy," he said.

On each trip the team shall be visiting 30-40 organisations and this would be beneficial in building network will overseas institutes.

Each three months semester is divided into  a five day visit and 85-days working on specific projects under the supervision of IIMC faculty.

The projects will cover cross cultural and regulatory issues, trade channels, capital and financial markets, multinational companies and local companies operating in specific markets, strategies and macro-economic conditions.

The target is to get 30 candidates in the first year with the fee being Rs 1.60 lakh for Indian residents and $4000 for overseas applicants.

An additional sum of Rs 1.6 lakh nearly will be required for the overseas stay and travel.

"The programme has been tailored primarily for three classes of candidates: one, those already in the international market requiring management qualification, two, domestic businessmen requiring a global exposure, and lastly, those planning to set up business overseas," said Das.

The selection will be done through an aptitude test for suitable candidates with at least 8-10 years of relevant work experience, he added.

This is an extension to the existing executive course under the brand 'IIMC long duration' that has been running since 1999.

"In addition, IIMC is adding three more courses in its 'long duration programme'--the other two being, one year program on leading and managing and the other, one year programme for development of entrepreneurs and managers turned entrepreneurs," said Das.

Presently, IIMC will be offering three courses for the senior management level, four for senior and middle management, two for young managers and one for executives.
