A record number of 209 students of the Post-Graduate Programme of the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad secured jobs at the end of the fourth day of the summer placements, emphasising the institution's superiority and quality.

Saturday is the last day of the summer placements.

IIM-Bangalore, the closest 'competitor' of the IIM-A, has completed its summer placement with 205 students of the post-graduate programme getting offers.

In first three days of placement, IIM-Calcutta has so far succeeded in getting placements for its 130 PGP students, way behind IIM-A.

IIM-A outscored the Bangalore institute in the number of students who bagged overseas placement.

So far, 48 PGP students from this institute have bagged prestigious overseas job offers against the 24 overseas offers made to the students of IIM-B during this year's summer placement which concluded at IIM-B on November 17.

"We expect to secure 50 overseas placements this time, making a record as there is a strong possibility that on the last day of the placement, on December 13, foreign companies will come back to woo our students. Even during the second day of the placement procedure when usually only domestic players drop in to hire the students from IIM-A, our students secured offers from major foreign companies including a number of investment banks and also large FMCG companies such as Procter & Gamble, Singapore," Saikat Sengupta, media spokesperson for IIM-A placement cell, said.

During this year's ongoing summer placement process, apart from overseas giants, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, J P Morgan and Deutsche Bank, domestic majors such as Hindustan Lever Ltd, Tata Administrative Services (TAS), Procter & Gamble India, Kotak Securities and Kotak Mahindra Bank hired a large number of PGP students.

"We have 49 more students to be placed. We hope that the would receive offers on the concluding day of the summer placement. Some of them may get foreign job offers also. This time, Citibank has also hired a large number of students for both its overseas and domestic operations," said Sengupta.

Himansu Rai, a student involved in the placement process, said, "The final day of the summer placement is due this weekend. So far we have placed 209 students within three recruitment days  --  a record amongst the Indian B-schools."

Among the domestic companies, the highest internships have been offered by FMCG giants including HLL while several companies offered higher pays this time, said a source.

The salary figures were not available. On the 'Day-Zero', 35 students of IIM-A were offered overseas offers. Nine IIM-B students and 11 IIM-C students landed overseas jobs during their 'Day-Zero' of placement process.

'Day-Zero' is the day when all the foreign companies come to grill and pick up students from the IIMs.
