Eyeing the Indian market as a hub for chips design, the United States-based communications circuit company Integrated Device Technology is considering setting up a development centre in India.
"IDT recognises India in global design capability. We are considering a proposal to set up a development centre with 25-30 engineers to design silicon," Ravi Agarwal, vice president, Japan and A-PAC sales, IDT, said in New Delhi.
All important ingredients are in place in India like availability of cost-effective man power and skill sets which make India's manufacturing costs comparable to those in China topped off by a growing domestic market for electronics production, he said.
The company is finalising plans to have a direct presence in India next year through a sales office. At present it has two distributors for India.
The company is also mulling to design technology platforms in India through working with companies in the same field. In that case it will provide technology specifications, silicon, evaluations board and application router and nodes to them, and then the design could be sent to US, Europe to prospective and existing customers, he said.
