Global giant IBM on Wednesday announced the opening of a global service delivery centre (GSDC) in Bangalore, India, significantly expanding its existing operations to meet the growing market demand for IT outsourcing and management services.

The centre will provide local and global clients with command centre services, including remote monitoring of servers, security operations and network operations, data centre services, including server hosting, server management and storage management, and IT help desk services.

The GSDC will utilise a centralised model of delivery, which offers clients a greater ability to move work quickly to other locations and reduced risk; thus ensuring very high-value, high-quality service that is delivered consistently across locations. Through the GSDC's modern infrastructure, clients will have their data housed in a secure environment and be able to tap into virtually limitless computing power on demand and pay for it on a per-usage basis.

The new centre features a high-performance network infrastructure and leading edge technology and telephony systems. It complies with the most stringent international and Indian technology standards and leverages IBM's globally-proven processes and tools combined with India's skilled resources to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions.

Built with an investment of $10 million (Rs 45 crore approx), this world-class centre covers 31,000 square feet and has a 1000-seat capacity with room to expand in line with client demand.

According to Shanker Annaswamy, managing director, IBM Global Services India, "Clients are looking to achieve greater business optimisation and want an experienced global partner such as IBM to manage their IT infrastructures to gain access to skills and increase the flexibility of their businesses as well as manage costs. Through this new centre, which is part of IBM's globally-integrated service delivery network, clients in India and around the world will receive the highest quality services to drive business results."

He added, "The centre will facilitate the growth of India's information technology services industry through the infusion of advanced methodologies and best practices, and the development of local talent to deliver these services."

Said Jai Menon, Director, IT and Technology, Bharti Televentures, "Having a world-class IBM GSDC in India opens several computing and service possibilities for us. We will not only have access to the best possible infrastructure, but will be able to build superior capabilities to make our IT more secure, robust and efficient in order to enhance customer satisfaction."

This GSDC is part of IBM's integrated global services delivery network of more than two dozen centres located around the world, which gives IBM the scale and expertise necessary to operate and continuously improve business processes and technology solutions for Indian and global clients.
