Overseas direct investment by Indian companies fell by 72 per cent to $2.05 billion in January 2015, showed the data released by the Reserve Bank on Friday.
Indian companies had invested $7.34 billion in their overseas ventures in January 2014.
In December 2014, Indian companies had invested $2.47 billion in overseas markets.
The investments were a mix of issuance of guarantees of $1.69 billion, loans of $178.72 million and equity investment of $180.23 million.
Lanco Infratech, Avantha Holdings, NCC Ltd, Zomato Media Pvt Ltd, Ballarpur Industries, The Indian Hotels Co, Berger Paints India, Britannia Industries, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, Frost Internationl and Inox India Ltd were among the major investors during the month.
