Ford Motor India on Monday said the sales of its flagship model Ikon crossed the 10,000 mark in the first five months this year and the company was poised to post profit in 2004.

The cumulative (January-May 2004) sales of Ikon went up by a massive 52 per cent over the same period last year. Increasing sales would result in profitability in 2004, Ford Motor India vice-president (marketing and external affairs) Vinay Piparsania said in a statement.

The Indian arm of the second-biggest US automaker, which is scheduled to launch yet another car later this year, has captured over 40 per cent of the fast emerging sports utility vehicle market within six months of the launch of SUV Endeavour.

The company was also increasing the number of its dealer network from 90 to 105, he said.
