Global logistics major FedEx on Thursday extended its programme of increasing public awareness about blindness in partnership with Orbis Flying Eye Hospital to India.
For this they have roped in Ayesha Kapur, the 10 year-old child artist of the Bollywood movie "Black" to launch the campaign -- 'Delivering Sight Worlwide' in the capital on Thursday. She also became one of the Sight Ambassador to support the cause.
The Eye Bank Association of India is also an active partner in making the campaign a success.
The campaign is aimed at increasing public awareness about the threat of blindness in the country. It also urged people to join the campaign by becoming Sight Ambassador to spread the message on the need to donate eyes.
"India has high incidence of corneal blindness while there is a need of 2,00,000 corneas annually but only 20,000 corneas are harvested. FedEx and ORBIS are therefore working together to educate the public and employees about the need to persuade people to become the ambassador for eye sight," FedEx Indian subcontinent managing director Jacques Creeten said.
