The country's top auditor CAG on Tuesday said it plans to hire 2,000-3,000 semi-skilled people every year to handle the increasing work-load.

"We are planning to take on board 2,000-3,000 people every year. We may also take up more people going forward," Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai said in Shimla on Tuesday.

"Our manpower sanction limit is 63,000, but currently we have only on roll 47,000," he said on the sidelines of the Diamond jubilee celebrations of the National Academy of Audit and Accounts, the training institute of CAG.

With audits being taken up in a host of areas including private firms now, the process demands trained manpower. "Apart from the NAAA, Shimla there are 15 other regional training institutes," Rai said.

The NAAA, one of the premier training institutions in the country, provides professional training to newly-inducted Indian Audit & Accounts Service officers. It also conducts specialised training for in-service officers from IA&AS, Indian Forest Service, Defence Services, Railways, and PSUs.
