The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has unearthed a racket in which many subscribers are reported to have sought mobile phone connections from the BSNL after producing fake ration cards and giving telephone numbers of other subscribers in Sonepat and other nearby areas in Haryana.

BSNL sources said on Friday that the telecom services provider has introduced a scheme for granting mobile telephone connections in January this year.

Thereafter, many persons applied for getting the mobile phone connection. These applicants were granted mobile phone connections consequently by BSNL.

During the scrutiny of the applications, BSNL authorities found that many persons who had been provided mobile phone connections were not genuine.

This fact came to light when BSNL issued demand notices to a telephone subscribers Mange Ram of Gohana town asking him to pay Rs 9,720 as rent and call charges.

The said subscriber informed BSNL authorities that he had never applied for the mobile phone connection and had also not used the mobile service.

Similarly in other cases also, BSNL authorities found the documents and subscribers fake. BSNL has lodged an FIR with the police against the fake subscribers for allegedly cheating BSNL of millions of rupees.
