Sensex creates history in Samvat 2061

Samvat 2061 on Monday closed on a winning note with the Sensex gaining 206 points to close at 7892.32.

With this, the Samvat 2061 has created history with the biggest-ever Sensex gain of 1,928 points.

The Sensex closed at 5964.01 on the first day of Samvat 2061, that is, November 12. Investor wealth rose by a whopping Rs 500,000 crore (Rs 5000 billion) during the Samvat with 87 per cent stocks rising to new highs.

This was the third year in a row when the index gained over 1,000 points. The index rose by 1,162 points in Samvat 2060 and 1,815 points in 2059.

Foreign Institutional Investors and local mutual funds made record net investments of Rs 56,864 crore (Rs 568.64 billion) during Samvat 2061.

Category-wise, the FIIs reported net investment of Rs 44,246 crore (Rs 442.46 billion) and mutual funds made net investments of Rs 12,618 crore (Rs 126.18 billion) in equity markets.

The aggregate market capitalisation of traded stocks during the year appreciated by Rs 5,06,214 crore (Rs 5062.14 billion). Total investors' wealth increased from Rs 14,85,508 crore (Rs 14855.08 billion) on November 12, 2004 to Rs 19,91,722 crore (Rs 19917.22 billion) on Monday.

Constructions, electronic equipment - switchgear, breweries, sugar, pumps and compressors, textiles readymade apparel and industrial gages were the major gainers among the sectors that appreciated more than 100 per cent in Samavat 2061.

Telecommunication, non-banking finance companies, engineering, courier and transport services, paints, forgings and steel sectors gained in the range of 80-100 per cent. Of the 2,371 actively traded scrips, 2,059 stocks (87 per cent) saw their prices rising during the Samvat.

The market value of 869 stocks more than doubled during the year, of which 20 stocks gained more than 1,000 per cent.

Forty-eight scrips appreciated in the range of 500-1000 per cent, 294 stocks between 200-500 per cent and 507 scrips rose in the range of 100-200 per cent.

Non-A group small cap stocks were among the largest gainers, in percentage terms. Jayabharat Sarees price gained 3010 per cent from Rs 6.40 on November 12, 2004 to Rs 199.05 on Monday.

Anant Raj Industries gained 3,012 per cent to Rs 199.80 from Rs 6.42 at the end of Samavat 2060. Arihant Foundation market price appreciated 1,497 per cent to Rs 170.10 (Rs 10.65), BF Utilities 1,272 per cent to Rs 386.25 (Rs 28.15), Sriniwas Shipping 1,213 per cent to Rs 131.25 (Rs 10) and Lakshmi Overseas 1,179 per cent to Rs 369.70 (Rs 28.90) on BSE.
