Imported to India as a completely built unit, the sedan is priced at Rs 2.53 crore
Proclaimed to spawn 15 new models in calendar year 2015, Mercedes Benz India is on a launch spree. Latest to join the Merc stable is the S63 AMG sedan. This indeed is the 10th model from the Stuttgart based luxury auto maker for India and ninth model from the AMG clan. After the launch of new S63 AMG, the S-Class line up now has six variants (offering different body styles).
Following the launch of two coupes christened S-500 and S63 AMG, the sedan version of S63 AMG has been unleashed. Use of components like aluminium and carbon fibre brings down the overall weight by 100 kgs as compared to the usual S-Class. Besides being more powerful, S63 AMG sedan gets a couple of changes both on the outside and inside which differentiate it from the regular version. That said, both the avatars are largely same with minimal differences drawing a line between both. Segregated by the more assertive AMG kit which includes chrome inserts, 20-inch AMG wheels and slightly lowered suspension, S63 AMG sedan is hands down a sportier version.
Exteriors feature comparatively larger bumper up front and bigger air intakes. Besides, front also gets a splitter. Rear on the other hand comes with innate diffuser and quad exhaust. Side skirts have been equipped relatively low, a lip spoiler is also fitted on the outside rendering a sportier stance.
Traces of vital contrast are not evident since interiors are chiefly same, with only a few variations. There are no additional features though, but cabin features black leather upholstery replacing the more elegant beige seat covers. Wood trims have also been skipped, instead the sedan features carbon fibre trims. Eminent comfort goodies inset includes fully electric seats in front, twin LCD displays for the instrument cluster and COMMAND infotainment system.
The prime divergence lies in mechanical set-up as S63 AMG sedan gets a stronger heart pumping out considerably high power output. S63 AMG sedan is formulated to yield power-packed performance. Power is generated by the muscular 5.5 litre, twin-turbo, AMG V8 petrol engine capacitating towering power of 577 Bhp along with top torque of 91.77 kgm. Drive is transmitted via a seven-speed automatic transmission. The automatic gearbox offers three driving modes - Comfort, Sport and Manual.
On the performance front, the sedan scores high being able to achieve a ton from nil (in terms of speed) within 4.4 seconds. For India customers, S63 AMG is available in rear wheel drive version; while for international markets, Mercedes Benz has put on offer both rear-wheel drive and 4Matic all-wheel-drive system with Magic Body Control or Airmatic suspension system. The India spec model too gets the Magic Body Control suspension system just like the coupe version ‘S63 AMG coupe’.
The Magic Body Control suspension system uses a stereo camera which is put to use for scanning the road ahead and adjust the suspension accordingly. This helps in helps in avoiding any obstacle hence enabling smooth ride.
Imported to India as a completely built unit, the sedan is priced high at Rs 2.53 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). As for the rivals in its segment, the power packed vehicle will gun straight against the likes of Maserati Quattroporte, Bentley Flying Spur and BMW 760Li.
