Hyundai recalls Sonata, India unaffected

A door lock problem forced Korean carmaker Hyundai to announce the recall of over 47,000 units of its premium sedan Sonata from its home market and the US. However, the move has no impact in India.

According to a statement released by the company Hyundai Motor discovered a mechanical problem with its front door latches that did not close properly. The statement also states that Hyundai is recalling Sonata "voluntarily" after "a handful" of complaints.

The recall would have almost no effect on the Indian market because in India only the Sonata Transform is sold and the recall is for the new YF Sonata sold in the US and South Korea.

Hyundai has now fitted modified parts to some of the recalled models to avoid a possible reoccurrence of the problem.

As per the company statement, YF Sonatas produced in Korea until December 6 (approximately 46,000 units) and those produced at HMS (Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama) and sold to customers until February 16 (approximately 1,300 units) are going to be affected by this recall.
