"The telecom industry remained on top among respondents, while the IT and Financial Services industries were ranked second and third respectively", R Kannan, CEO of city based HR firm Assesspeople, which conducted the study recently, said.
However, the IT capital of India, Bangalore remained on top as the preferred destination by most students for employment while the National Capital Region and the financial capital Mumbai were preferred as the second and third destinations respectively, he said.
"Over 5,200 respondents participated in the study, conducted pan-India in October and November 2008", he said.
Candidates from North and South India look for the company image, while those in the East opt for the company's management style and West on 'compensation matters', he said.
Kannan said candidates from South prefer 'aptitude and personality based tests', while those from the East prefer group discussions. Candidates from the Northern and Western parts of the country prefer tests on the 'subject knowledge'.
He said more than 80 per cent of respondents preferred online assessments, while 84 per cent opted for companies providing formal training.
Kannan said 74 per cent of the respondents had voted for accessing information about the company through the internet.
Assesspeople will formally release the report, costing Rs 12,000, on January 14, he said, adding that the company proposed to sell around 200-250 copies in the next few months.
