Centre could experiment in setting up education parks in the country like in IT sector and workout to provide special incentives to those setting up the parks, National Knowledge Commission chairman Sam G Pitroda said.
"It has already been discussed with the ministry of commerce for setting up education parks like IT parks in the country", he said through a video conference at the Education Summit 2009, organised by Confederation of Indian Industry in Chennai on Friday.
He said government could experiment in establishing education parks so that it can work out strategies to enhance quality of education.
While stressing the need for public-private partnership in the education sector, Pitroda said it was necessary to give emphasis on expansion of higher education in the PPP model. "We also need to focus on administration, field structure, financial diciplines and technology in the education front", he said.
To a question, he stressed the need for everyone to learn English. "We should always accept that the language of global business is English. Lots of technology literature available is only in English. Therefore, we have to focus on English as the language of business. We should know English to get other skill sets also", he said.
On the rural education front, Pitroda said since communication network was available cheap and cost effective in the rural areas, people should use the same to enhance education in schools and colleges.
The summit was organised with an intention to foster the education sector in Tamil Nadu.
The objective was also to promote the state as a hub of education, focus on the reforms needed to improve quality of education, attract best talents to teaching and reduce procedural hurdles in improving quality.
The Summit also brought together principals of colleges, heads of education institutes, academicians, industry leaders, government representatives, non-governmental organisations and corporate leaders.
