An Indian may bag the Economics Nobel this time

2001 Nobel winner Joseph Stiglitz's choice is Partha Dasgupta, who has worked with him and done research on environmental economics - "the importance of which we've just begun to appreciate."

Partha Sarathi Dasgupta, is the Frank Ramsey Professor of Economics at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, and a fellow of St John's College, Cambridge.

His research interests have covered economics of poverty and nutrition, environmental economics, economic measurement and economics of knowledge.

He did his undergraduate studies in Physics at the University of Delhi, and then did a B.A Mathematics at Cambridge. This was followed by a PhD in Economics at Cambridge

He was born in Varanasi.
