Notwithstanding West Bengal Chief Minister Budddhadeb Bhattacherjee's assertion that talks to resolve Singur imbroglio should be held without the pre-condition of return of 400 acres, his party CPI-M said on Monday it could be discussed.

"Even if we accept for the sake of argument that the quantum of disputed land is 400 acres, the matter should be discussed across the table," said CPI-M State Secretary Biman Bose.

"Among the unwilling farmers at Singur there are some who are co-sharers of the land for which consent has also been given," he said.

"But I will not want to discuss it on the streets. Whatever Trinamool Congress has to say on the issue, let it be placed at the negotiating table," he said at a Left Front rally in Kolkata.

In a democracy, discussion was the key to solving any problem, Bose, who is Left Front chairman, said and disputed the quantum of 400 acres which Trinamool Congress wanted to be returned.

He said this issue could not be 'settled by arguing on the streets, but should be discussed in a proper manner'.
