After it lapse below 8,000 for the first time since Oct 10, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fluctuated in a 911-point range to end at 8,835.25, up 552.59 points or 6.7 per cent.
The technology-laden Nasdaq Composite surged 97.49 points, or 6.5 per cent, to end at 1,596.7.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 58.99, or 6.92 per cent, to 911.29.
