A stream of bad earnings and fresh concerns about the resilience of the Chinese economy weighed on European shares on Tuesday, sending shares down by over 5.0%.
Europe's 50 leading shares fell 5.4%, at 2,483.61 points, in Europe on Tuesday.
Britain's FTSE was down 3.6%, at 4,246.66 points, while Germany's DAX slipped 5.3% and the CAC-40 was down 4.8% in Paris.
Spain's IBEX fell 4.1% in Madrid, while leading shares in Italy fell 5.8%.
Banks and miners were the biggest decliners all around.
