Premji still the highest paid in Wipro

Wipro chairman Azim Premji, with a stake of nearly 80 per cent, is not only the single largest beneficiary of annual dividends, but also the highest paid executive in the company.

In the financial year 2007-08, Premji received a whopping $328,556 towards his annual compensation package. This included $107,701 as salary and allowances, $127,621 towards compensation and incentives, $35,298 for housing and $41,895 towards the long-term compensation, the company told the Securities and Exchange Commission in its annual filing.

The chief financial officer Suresh Senapaty, who has been with Wipro since 1980, came close to Premji, taking home an annual compensation of $317,751.

His package included $237,674 towards salary and allowances, $13,374 as commission and incentives, $36,148 for housing and $30,247 towards long-term compensation.

Suresh Vaswani, ex-president, Global IT Service Lines and currently the CEO of the company, saw the third highest compensation in the organisation. He received an annual remuneration package of $315,013. Vineet Agrawal, president, Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting got $304,915, which included salary and allowances, commission and long-term compensation.

Besides the salary, Premji took home Rs 530 crore (Rs 5. 3 billion) towards annual dividends for the year ended March 31, 2008.
