After turning around the financial fortunes of the Indian Railways, Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad is going a step further to make it a 'durable' one by charting out plans for the next 17 years.

The Railways is preparing 'Railway Vision 2025 Document' that will be ready in the next six months. It will provide details of the action plan and required investment for achieving the stipulated targets.

"We will prepare a Railway Vision 2025 Document within coming six months which will present new ideas and initiatives in a novel manner. This shall outline our preparedness and strategies for the future," Prasad said in Parliament while presenting Railway Budget 2008-09.

He said the document would contain details of customer-centric modern passenger services and various freight schemes to sharpen the competitive edge of Railways.

It will also have a blueprint for forming an organization that would encourage trans-departmental decision making and route-wise planning to reduce traffic bottlenecks, expand network and modernise the Railways.

"The passenger service will be governed by two words -- comfort and convenience -- and the buzz word in freight business will be commitment and connectivity," he said.

All these efforts will lay a solid foundation for the resurgent Railways and the document will inspire its management and employees for new experiments, Prasad added.
