While the economic recession has caused havoc and taken away millions of jobs in America and dented the pay packets of chief executives, some of them did manage to bag the giant salaries.
Some of the highest paid executives belonged to companies that have collapsed or have been taken over by other companies. The CEOs from financial companies were amongst the highest paid.
The CEOs from six financial services companies are among the top 30 highest paid CEOs, according to a study by The Corporate Library.
The median pay hike for 1,864 executives in 2007 was up 7.5 per cent. At a time when CEOs are relinquishing their salaries and bonuses, here's a list of CEOs who received the highest salaries...
