Organic farming found big support from all quarters at a global seminar held in Kochi recently.
Participants at the seminar called for giving more stress to organic farming and its promotion.
Almost all speakers said the Centre and the state governments should give more importance to organic farming in India.
Organic farming is an excellent tool for enhancing the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers, who are resource poor and pursue agriculture in marginal lands not adequately rain-fed, Gerald A Hermann, director of Organic Services, said at the 2-day seminar organised by Organic Services and Solutions India Pvt Ltd, a joint venture with Organic Services GmbH, Germany.
He pointed out that organic agriculture would be the most sustainable alternative to overcome poverty and bring about sustainable rural development.
