A recent Central government package has helped revive several closed tea gardens in Kerala.
According to an official press note, the rehabilitation package has helped nine of the 17 closed tea gardens in Kerala reopen. Again five gardens are in the process of settling their accounts and will resume operations soon.
Similarly, in West Bengal one of the 14 closed tea gardens has started functioning, three are in the process of being taken over by new management, two are negotiating with banks for restructuring their outstanding dues, while the owners of two other gardens are looking out for prospective buyers.
The government asked owners of the closed tea gardens to avail of the rehabilitation package by the end of August and reopen the gardens expeditiously.
