Sensex ends up 109 points, SBI gains 3%

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 43 points at 15,548 on positive cues from the Asian markets. The index zoomed to a high of 15,650 in early noon deals - a gain of 145 points from the previous close of 15,505. The index finally closed on a firm note with a gain of 109 points (0.7%) at 15,614.

The NSE Nifty ended at 4,529, up 32 points.

The BSE Realty Index zoomed over 2% (205 points) to 7847. The BSE Auto and Bankex gained over 1% each at 4939 and 8082, respectively.

The market breadth was bullish - out of 2,749 scrips traded, 1,575 logged gains and 1,111 declined on Thursday.

Index Gainers and Losers

Maruti gained nearly 4% (Rs 32) to close at Rs 891.

SBI moved up over 3% (Rs 52) to Rs 1,676.

ACC finished with a gain of 2.5% at Rs 1,129. Ambuja Cements and Grasim moved up nearly 2% each to Rs 144 and Rs 3,264, respectively.

HDFC Bank moved up over 2% to Rs 1,210.

While Reliance gained Rs 13 to Rs 2,026, Infosys added Rs 13 to Rs 1,834.

HDFC, RCom, Tata Motors, TCS and M&M also finished with gains.

Hindustan Unilever declined 1% to Rs 215. ITC, Hindalco, Ranbaxy, Dr. Reddy's and Tata Steel also declined.

Most Active Counters

Reliance Capital was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 178 crore followed by Reliance (Rs 125 crore) and IFCI (Rs 125 crore).
