IIMs face faculty shortage

The prestigious Indian Institute of Managements in various parts of the country are facing shortage of faculty members with some having a short fall of 15 members or above.

Barring the Indian Institute of Management at Lucknow, the rest of the IIMs are facing a faculty shortage, HRD Minister Arjun Singh said in the Rajya Sabha.

While the IIM Kozhikode has a faculty of 17 against the sanctioned strength of 40 members, IIM Kolkata has 70 faculty members against the sanctioned strength of 88.

IIM Ahmedabad has 83 faculty members as against the sanctioned strength of 85 and IIM Indore has a two member shortage at 31 members.

The Bangalore wing of IIM has 74 members as against the sanction strength of 89. IIM Lucknow has a faculty in position of 60, the same as the sanctioned strength.

Singh said some of the IIMs have also increased their intake of Fellow Programmes to make available increased number of eligible persons to take up faculty position.
