Maruti Udyog Ltd reported on Thursday a 61.6 per cent increase in domestic vehicle sales during February at 59,095 units as against 36,608 units in the same month last year.
The company's exports in the month, however, declined 12.9 per cent month on month at 3,904 units in February this year compared to 4,487 units in the year-ago month, MUL said in a statement.
Sales in the month shot up by 61.6 per cent, primarily because of a low-base of sales in February 2006 in anticipation of the excise duty cut, MUL said.
In the 'C' segment, which comprises of Omni and Versa, MUL sold 8,069 units in February as against 4,079 units in the year-ago period, an increase of 97.8 per cent, it said.
The company sold 42,913 units in the A2 segment, which comprises of Alto, Wagon-R, Zen-Estilo and Swift. Sales of sedans Baleno and Esteem dipped by 21.4 per cent in the month at 1,798 units.
The company's flagship model Maruti-800 also saw a marginal decrease of two per cent in sales at 5,955 units.
Total sales (including exports) in the April-February period stood at 6,03,152 units as against 4,98,626 units, up 21 per cent year on year, the company added.
MUL has sold 5,61,822 units in the previous fiscal ending March 31, 2006.
TVS bike sales up 6%: Two-wheeler manufacturer TVS Motors reported on Thursday a six per cent jump in motorcycle sales during February at 70,155 units compared to 66,391 units in the same month last year.
The company reported a 10 per cent increase in its total two-wheeler sales at 1,20,110 units during the month against 1,08,923 units during February 2006, TVS said in a statement.
TVS would launch a new model of motorcycles in the month and expects a stronger growth in the segment during the year, it said.
In scooters, TVS sold 19,937 units of gearless scooter 'TVS Scooty' in February compared to 16,052 units in the same month a year ago, an increase of 24 per cent.
The company's exports grew by 33 per cent in February at 8,017 units, it said.
Hero Honda sales up: Hero Honda reported on Thursday an 11.89 per cent increase in total sales during February at 2,80,515 units.
The company had sold 2,50,695 units in the same month a year ago.
Hero Honda had reported a 19.28 per cent jump in sales (including exports) during January at 2,97,554 units as against 2,49,450 units in January 2006.
