Ignoring the threat of a renewed agitation against the small car project at Singur, West Bengal, Tata Motors went ahead with mobilisation of construction equipment on Monday and enrolment of locals for work on the Rs 1,000 crore (Rs 10 billion) greenfield plant amid heavy security.

"Registration of locals for the construction work was going on and already over 200 people have been engaged with the villagers showing keen interest in the project"  the general manager(construction) of Tata Motors M B Kulkarni told PTI.

Mobilisation of the construction equipment was also on and most of the equipment necessary for starting work in the main plant would reach the site today, he said.

Authorities have already tightened security around the project site with heavy deployment of RAF to prevent any untoward incident.

Prohibitory orders continue to be in force in the area.

The main opposition Trinamool Congress has already threatened renewed agitation against the project and party workers led by its leader Kakoli Ghoshdastidar held a demonstration in front of the Tata Center in West Bengal.

Threatening intensification of the agitation by the party against 'forcible' acquisition of land at Singur for the Tata Motors's project, the Trinamool Congress spokesperson Partha Chatterjee said, "Singur may turn into Nandigram where violent protest by farmers forced the company to stop its anti-farmer action by police".
