Rlys' 9-mth earnings at Rs 45,106 crore

Maintaining its impressive growth, the Indian Railways earned over Rs 45,106 crore (Rs 451.06 billion) from April to December 2006 as compared to Rs 38,580 crore (Rs 385.80 billion) during the same period in the previous year, an increase of 16.92 per cent.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 25,745.04 crore (Rs 257.45 billion) during the period in 2005 to Rs 30485.38 crore (Rs 304.85 billion) in the same period last year, an increase of 18.41 per cent, an official release said on Tuesday.

The total passenger revenue earnings during April- December last were Rs 12,726.76 crore (Rs 127.26 billion) as compared to Rs 11,370.29 crore (Rs 113.70 billion) in the same period in 2005, showing an increase of 11.93 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 1,233.98 crore (Rs 12.33 billion) in the same period last year as against Rs 872.29 crore (Rs 8.72 billion) during the previous year.

The Railways have carried 527.95 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during the period last year, an increase of 46.86 million tonnes.

The total number of passengers booked during the period last year stood at 4730.17 million compared to 4406.89 million in the same period in 2005.
