Inflation unchanged at 5.16%

Inflation remained unchanged at the previous week's level of 5.16 per cent for the week ended October 7, despite increase in prices of basic essentials like pulses, atta, sooji, maida, edible oils and electricity.

The wholesale price based inflation was at 4.88 per cent in the corresponding week last year.
Prices of food items rose due to higher demand during the ongoing festive season.

The Wholesale Price Index for all commodities rose marginally to 207.9 points due to increase in the indices of fuel and manufactured product groups. The WPI was at 197.7 points in the year ago period.

The government revised the final inflation figure to 5.07 per cent for the week ended August 12 from provisional 4.92 per cent while the WPI stood corrected at 205 points from the earlier estimate of 204.7 points.
