Petrol Pump owners in Maharashtra call off their three-day old strike.

Petrol dealers of Maharashtra had launched a 'no-purchase' protest from Monday to demand lowering of sales tax. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had assured them on Tuesday that he would consider their demands.

Over 2,700 petrol pumps in Maharashtra went on strike after dealers decided not to make fresh purchases for an indefinite period to press their demand

Sales tax in Maharashtra is higher than that in neighbouring states, which leads to loss of business for fuel retailers.

Maharashtra imposes a 33 per cent sales tax on petrol and 28 per cent on diesel. The sales tax in the state is higher than its neighbours.
