In an interesting twist in the summer internship recruitment, students of the country's most reputed B-school, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad made a beeline to join start-up companies during the ongoing summer placement programme.

Starting from Saturday, the summer internship recruitment process saw a clear interest amongst students to join start-up companies.

Talking to Business Standard, Devashish Chakravarty, in-charge of student placement committee, said, "A number of students have shown keen interest to join the start-up companies during the summer placement programme".

He further said, "Six start-up companies have come to the campus for the current summer placement". "Till today, 40 students have met the representatives of the start-up companies", added Chakravarty.

There are 250 students in the first year's batch of the management study at IIM-A. The companies have made their presentation to the students introducing themselves to attract the best.

"This is for the first time that start-up companies have come to the campus for recruitment during the summer placement", said Chakravarty.

According to him, the students are keen to join the start-up companies as it gives them complete exposure to the challenges of setting up a new company.

He further said that those students who are willing to set up their own enterprises after the completion of the management study are keen to join the start-ups.

However, he clarified that the real picture of the number of students joining the start-up companies will be clear once the summer requirement process ends. The process for the summer placement would be over by 18 November and the list would be out on 20 November 06.

In last year's summer internship recruitment process, a total of 86 companies had visited the campus and there were 249 students who joined companies from various sectors including finance, marketing, systems and consulting.
