Infosys to spend Rs 3,600 cr on training

Software major Infosys on Tuesday said it plans to spend around Rs 3,600 crore (Rs 36 billion) this year on development of its training and infrastructure facilities.

"We are developing a large training facility at Mysore, which will permit us to train around 9,000 personel at one place. The facility will consist of 250 fully developed rooms along with all entertainment and recreational arrangements," Infosys HR head Mohandas Pai said.

He said the Mysore facility will bear an investment of Rs 200 crore (Rs 2 billion). In addition to this the company will spend a total of Rs 1,000 crore (Rs 10 billion) on training of its employees this year.

"Across the globe, IT firms are paying heavily for training of its personel. We have already invested Rs 500 crore (Rs 5 billion) for this and will put the remaining money by next few months," said Pai.

He said the country's IT industry spends around $2.6 billion on training of its personel. "Generally, BPO firms require $600 to be spent for training of a single employee. The same amounts IT industry around $500," he added.

The firm, which besides Banglore has its major presence in non-metro cities like Mysore, Pune, Jaipur will spend around Rs 1,600 crore (Rs 16 billion) this year on development of its infrastructure.

"Currently, we have a total space of 10 million square foot in operation. We will be adding 5.3 million square feet this year," said Pai. Infosys is looking at expanding these facilities, besides it is looking at newer destinations like upcoming special economic zone at Rajasthan and few places in West Bengal.

"The Rajasthan government has invited us to set up a facility at the SEZ coming up there. There are also some proposals to invest in West Bengal. We are studying these options," Pai said.
