Budget airline GoAir on Wednesday announced a new scheme - 'The GoAir Challenge' - promising to pay the public twice the difference if they succeed in getting a cheaper ticket than what they were offering.
GoAir managing director Jeh Wadia told reporters in Kochi that the difference would not be paid in cash, but credited to the customer who could then use it to purchase GoAir tickets.
"If the price paid for the ticket bought on a competing airline is lower than that paid for the GoAir ticket, then the airline will adjust double the difference between the two as credit, which can then be used to purchase GoAir tickets", he said.
GoAir would also immediately reimburse as credit, the cost of cancelling the rival airline's ticket, which could be used to purchase GoAir tickets, he said.
On future plans, Waida said GoAir would have another five aircraft in operation by the year-end. Their target was to get 33 aircraft by the end of 2008.
GoAir has ambitious plans for South India, he said, adding that the airline was keen on providing services to this region, as the economy was vibrant.
The airline already operates services on key routes like Chennai-Pune, Hyderabad-Bangalore, Chennai-Hyderabad and Mumbai-Coimbatore.
From April 3, GoAir would also start a daily service between Chennai and Delhi, he said.
GoAir currently operates a fleet of Airbus A320s with 20 flights covering 11 cities. From April 3, 14 more cities will be covered, including Delhi, Srinagar and Jammu, with a total of 28 daily flights, he said.
Wadia said GoAir has tied up with the BCCI on an exclusive basis to be the official airline for the Indian and England cricket teams in the ongoing series. "To start with, we will be flying them to all the one-day match venues," he said.
"The airline aims to be the lowest-cost airline in India and will provide passengers a comfortable and affordable option to popular holiday and business destinations in India," he added.Do you want to discuss stock tips? Do you know a hot one? Join the Stock Market Investments Discussion Group
