Motorola on Tuesday said it is in talks with Reliance Infocomm to provide set top boxes for the company's Internet Protocol Television rollout in the country.

"We are in discussion with Reliance Infocomm for providing set top boxes for the company's ambitious IPTV project," Motorola India chairman Firdose Vandrewala told reporters in Mumbai.

The company would also be bidding for the tender floated by state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd to provide 60 million GSM lines, he added.

The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group had recently announced its plans to foray into the IPTV business by the end of 2006.

Vandrewala said Motorola would also be ramping up its headcount in the country as part of its expansion plans.

"We will be adding another 1,000 people by the end of 2006 which would take our total headcount to more than 4,000," he said.

Most of it would be engineers at our Bangalore centre, he added.

With regards to the Special Economic Zone to be set up by the telecom giant, in the state of Tamilnadu, Vandrewala said, it would be announced soon.

"We will be making an announcement soon," he said, adding the facility would be mainly used for handset manufacturing.
