Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia on Monday asked Infosys to provide feedback to the central and state governments on policy matters to promote the industry.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a software development block of the NASDAQ-listed firm in Mysore, Ahluwalia said he would look to Infosys to provide 'enough feedback' to the planning mechanism not just in the central government but also state governments.
Ahluwalia said he would like to see Infosys giving feedback on what actually happens in the marketplace and what the governments should do to make continued success possible not just for Infosys but for the industry in general.
He hoped Infosys would give its 'advice' and 'interaction benefits' to chief ministers of different states. "I think Infosys can spread whatever message it has on what it takes to support the industry."
He said more than a handful of chief ministers had realised that one needs to listen to the industry, and they were willing to reshape policies to promote industry.
Ahluwalia said when economic reforms were initiated in 1991, many people at that time thought if the country opens up and integrates with the world, it will kill domestic enterprises.
"What one sees (today) in Infosys and other companies around the country is a demonstration that reforms have succeeded. We were fairly sure (in 1991) that we will get success (with reforms). But there is nothing like actually seeing it (success) happen", he said.
