Maintaining that the private sector was yet to agree on reservation for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, the government on Tuesday said a Group of Ministers was going into the issue of enacting a legislation for the purpose.

Asked if a legislation or amendments to the Constitution were coming in the wake of a categorical statement from some of the top industrial houses against reservation, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar said, "It is for the GOM to take a decision."

Speaking at a seminar on 'Social sector issues', Kumar said though all the political parties had agreed in Parliament for granting reservation to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, industrial houses had so far not agreed on the suggestion.

She said 21-top industrial houses led by Ratan Tata, in a joint letter to the government, had communicated that no law should be enacted with regard to extending reservation to these communities in the private sector and that they were ready for affirmative action.
