Forex reserves down by $6.8 bn

India's forex reserves decreased by $6.844 billion to stand at $137 billion during the week ended December 30 against $144 billion during the preceding week.

The reserves had decreased by $950 million during the preceding week ended December 23 compared to a week ago period.

Foreign currency assets decreased by $7.191 billion to $131.018 billion during the 7-day period ended December 30, according to figures released by the Reserve Bank of India.     Change in status of foreign currency assets in dollars was due to the effect of revaluation of non-US currencies such as euro, sterling, yen held in reserves.

Reserve position in the International Monetary Fund decreased by $2 million to $909 million.

Gold reserves increased by $349 million to $5.274 billion while SDRs remained static at $5 million, it added.
