After scaling to a peak of 9665, the Sensex finally ended with solid gains of 109 points at 9648.
Heavy buying at the Gujarat Ambuja counter towards the end saw the stock soar to a high of Rs 88.65, before settling with a significant gain of 8.2% at Rs 87.75. ACC added 1% at Rs 553.
Reliance gained 1% at at Rs 930.
ONGC declined 2% to Rs 1,186.
Satyam surged 3% to Rs 766. While Wipro moved up 1.6% to Rs 481, Infosys gained 1.4% at Rs 3,052. TCS also ended in thre green at Rs 1,744.
While ITC rallied 2.5% to Rs 147, HLL declined almost 1% to Rs 195.
NTPC surged 2.7% to Rs 115. Tata Power gained 1.5% at Rs 449.
BHEL moved up 1.6% to Rs 1,434.
HDFC Bank advanced 2.8% to Rs 733. ICICI Bank was up 1% at Rs 614, and SBI moved up 0.7% to Rs 918.
Dr.Reddy's marched 2.6% to Rs 1,021.
Tata Motors has rallied 2% to Rs 659, and Bajaj Auto was up 1.7% at Rs 2,052.
Hindalco spurted 1% to Rs 149.
Bharti Tele at Rs 344 and Tata Steel at Rs 384 were the only other notable losers among the Sensex stocks.
