The dedicated educational channel of University Grants Commission can now be accessed on-line after it has become the first of its kind to be available on the Internet.

Consortium for Educational Communication, an inter-university centre of UGC on electronic media which maintains the Vyas Channel, has been put it on the Internet recently in collaboration with Ernet, an educational research network.

"This is the first educational channel to be available on the Net. This is an effort to make knowledge freely available to the world. Now students in any corner of the globe can freely access the site and participate in the lectures and discussions," CEC Director Prof G D Sharma told PTI.

The channel airs all types of educational programmes round the clock in different modes like lectures with visuals and discussions on various subjects ranging from Humanities to Science and Commerce, he said.

"Everyday we put out four programmes on this channel. Sometimes we show some documentaries on important subjects," he said.

Now the same programmes will be simultaneously available in the CEC website -- www.cec-ugc.org

However, students need to have broadband connection to access the programmes. The response of the students to the site has been encouraging, he added.
